Dear Colleagues,
As it has been brought to your notice, elections for our Student Council are scheduled on 24th of May this year. Voting commences at 8:00AM and ends by 5:00PM in the hall above A-mess.
Exercise your vote without fail
In commitment to the welfare of the student community, during the next one year of our term, we will pursue the following issues till their logical conclusion
  1. Scholarship hike
    1. Most of us know that the scholarship for doctoral students has been hiked w.e.f April 1st 2010. We will accelerate its implementation.
  2. Mess Privatization
    1. Along with the mess committee we will stop the privatization of the mess and ensure its smooth running.
  3. Water Scarcity:
    1. Water scarcity is looming. In such trying times, being a scientific institute of repute, society looks up to us for answers and as its distinguished students it is important that the way we use water as a resource should be exemplary. Comprising a large proportion of the campus the way we use, refuse and conserve water effects the whole community. We would like to focus on efficient practices of water-use within our capacity.
  4. Hostel hygiene:
    1. Recent change in the hostel contract cleaning has resulted in lots of hygiene issues. These will be taken to the respective authorities and ensure that action will be taken at the earliest.
  5. Funding:
We will work for increasing,
    1. Allowance for while participating in national conferences to Rs. 1000 (DA + Accommodation)
    2. GARP fund from existing Rs. 25000 to Rs. 50000
We will work towards raising the Student Aid Fund from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000
  1. Social activities:
We will strengthen and align initiatives like the Common Usage Bicycles, Green Gang and Notebook Drive for recognition and benefit of the students of IISc.
  2. Campus cleanliness:
    1. We will sincerely put our efforts to implement plastic ban inside the campus
    2. We will monitor and work for increasing the hygiene at places we frequent visit viz., juice centre, T-board, Prakruthi etc.
  3. Placements
    1. We will strengthen the co-ordination between SC and placement committee towards working for most students getting the placements they deserve. In this direction, we will try to have a room dedicated for video-conferencing enabled with a high speed internet connection. If possible, we shall also consider international placement cell coordinated by student council placement committee.
  4. Drafting of the roles and responsibilities of SC members focusing specifically on defining the purview of the Student council
    1. This will ensure identifying activities and working mechanisms to be put in place for tackling all issues related to the students. More importantly, it will also suggest the modus operandi for the SC as an elected body, within the institute, in effecting change for the benefit of the student community.
  5. Accountability
    1. We will ensure that the decisions and actions of the SC are made available to the students and would encourage them to be constructive critics on all issues the SC presides on.
  6. By working in close association with the Woman’s cell we will be sensitive to addressing all issues that affect their performance as students.
  7. We will ensure that issues related to clearing of medical reimbursements, late night doctor availability are addressed and solved within the next one year.
  8. We will work towards providing dedicated Wi-fi connections for the Student Hostels with limited band-width.
Through this manifesto we intend to dedicatedly work for your welfare thereby proving our candidacy for the posts of Chairman and General Secretary. Please exercise your vote without fail.

  1. nice see you menifesto. i had a doubt... regarding your views on hostel mess:

    "Mess Privatization
1.Along with the mess committee we will stop the privatization of the mess and ensure its smooth running."

i wanted to ask what is wrong in mess privetisation.. even before this please clarify wat is mess privatisation, is it like a system they hav in NCBS and other places were you pay per item you take from the available menu.. and if this is the case in personal opinion privatization of mess might be better thing to do looking at the current scenario where many times we end up eating 50% of the items available in the menu because of various reasons....

  2. I am Siva ..let me list out the drawbacks

    1. It is not a pay per item system that is going to come
    2. It is a daily rate based system.
    3. You have to pay the bill in advance
    4. Sign out rules are not flexible
    5. Material control is out of students hands..Quality is not assured
    6. Right now mess is no loss no profit business
    7. If it is privatized then it is a profit based system
    8. There is no service orientation. They will look for profit. Hence quality will gradually come down.
    9. We still waste 50% of what is given in that system also
    10. Money is not the issue. Health is.
    11. MESS FOOD WILL NOT TASTE GOOD AFTER SOMETIME AS IT IS NOT HOME FOOD. It is as simple as that.
    12. Guest profit now comes to students. After privatization it goes to the proprietor.

  3. As you will be knowing the current conditions of the students who had undergone the conversions of their masters to Ph.D. The scholarships have been reduced considerably for those students which have been promoted to Ph.D from Masters.

The student being a Ph.D Scholar as like his/her other friends who have entered Ph.D directly will be getting a reduced amount compared to others. Don't you feel that this is an utter injustice.I want your opinion in this. Can this issue be raised to the management.

If you ca also include this as one of ur agendas in the current manifesto, that will be very true and kind of you, and we the student cumminity who are the victims of this will be highly indebted and grateful to SC upon consequent solution to this issues.

If you can quickly give some comments on this,we would definitely cast our votes and like ur group to head the SC...........
